The Threshold of My Dreams

by Zanna, age 12

You've reached the threshold of my dreams -
the gateway to my soul.
You've defeated the defenses
'Round my heart I uphold.

I built these walls on hate and lies -
On Earth, both are many.
Tears and hurt cement the blockade
that keep my heart from pain.

So, if I choose to let you in;
Know you are the first here.
My secrets, hopes, and my dreams are
unknown to hateful words.

And with my tender heart take care,
it's where I hide my soul.
My tough exterior is false
for safe it keeps my dreams....
